Moratti eyes derby challenge
Monday 21 April, 2008

Inter President Massimo Moratti is hoping they can secure the Serie A title in a memorable Derby della Madonnina against Milan.

The Nerazzurri are currently six points ahead of their nearest rivals Roma with just four games remaining and will face the Rossoneri in two weeks' time.

“We still have matches to play that are of great significance against teams looking to stay in the First Division and those striving to re-launch themselves, like Milan.

“I believe it will be very important to win the derby and then carry home the trophy in whatever way possible,” explained the oil magnate, who is wary of their cousins spoiling the party.

“Does Carlo Ancelotti want to win and take the Scudetto away from us? He is the Coach of Milan and it is normal that he would want to,” said the 62-year-old.

Moratti is also proud of his player's reaction to their disappointing display against Torino on Sunday.

Inter made hard work of their 1-0 victory, leading some to suggest that the Nerazzurri will struggle in the last four fixtures.

“My fear, thinking always to the next game, was that at the final whistle the players would feel satisfied, happy with their performance.

“Instead no, they have this consciousness that will put them in a condition to do better,” he insisted.

Moratti is looking to Sunday's opponents Torino to do them a favour when they face Roma in Week 35.

“It will depend on Torino and whether they will be able to repeat the good performance they put in against us.

“Obviously it will also depend on our far from easy match with Cagliari. I repeat, it will not be easy.”

Inter are likely to be without Zlatan Ibrahimovic against the Sardinians on Sunday, who has returned to Sweden to follow his own course of recuperation after succumbing to a knee injury.

“I am not unhappy that Ibra has gone away. I feel calmer, he is in agreement with the doctors and there is a good collaboration between them.

“I repeat that the most important thing is that Zlatan feels at ease,” explained the Beneamata chief.

Looking forward to the summer transfer window, Moratti laughed off rumours his son had been in Barcelona ironing out a deal for Ronaldinho.

“It would have been a beautiful holiday for him, but I don't believe it really happened. Ronaldinho is really expensive, even for us,” he grinned.
