Claudio Ranieri hints Juventus are hunting Roma’s second place spot, while Gigi Del Neri criticised Atalanta’s lack of effort.
Today’s 4-0 win in Bergamo puts the Bianconeri within five points of Roma and a push for an automatic Champions League qualifying berth is not out of the question.
“Our objective is to be Juventus, so that means having that something extra and breathing the same air as the champions,” noted Ranieri.
“Juventus want to be number one and we always aim to improve. We wanted to get a good start to this game and, considering two great wins on the trot against Milan and Parma, hoped to end the week on a high.
“The lads did brilliantly to give me everything they had and always fight for the result. They inspire me.”
Alessandro Del Piero bagged a hat-trick after Nicola Legrottaglie’s opener at the Stadio Azzurri d’Italia.
The win was already secured in the opening half-hour and Atalanta boss Del Neri did not appreciate this attitude.
“We gave them too much in the first 10 minutes and made many mistakes. Juventus deserved to win and are in great shape, but we didn’t really put in the effort.
“One must have more dignity, desire and focus. I preferred the second half, when we made our mark a little more.”
