Former Azzurri hitman Christian Vieri has officially rescinded his contract with Atalanta.
The 35-year-old was given a chance to rehabilitate his career with Atalanta in 2006-07 before deciding to move to Fiorentina.
Returning from the Viola, Vieri received a hostile reception from many Orobici fans and injuries prevented him winning them over.
I want to thank Atalanta, Vieri said in a brief statement to journalists.
They have always behaved correctly towards me during both spells at the club.
While Vieri's departure is no surprise, it is unusual to quit a club before the end of a season.
This may signify the end of Vieri's playing career after nearly 20 years and close to 200 goals as a professional.
