Cesare Prandelli insists Fiorentina’s win was never in doubt, but Stefano Colantuono feels Palermo deserved a point.
“Our only mistake was not managing to double our lead. Analysing the game you can see how Palermo were never dangerous if not for Fabrizio Miccoli’s shot from outside the box,” said the Viola boss.
Marco Donadel’s strike proved enough to win it, although Sebastien Frey palmed away Miccoli’s shot and turned Mark Bresciano’s follow-up on to the woodwork.
“It is true the squad is not terribly sharp right now, but I doubt many are at this stage. We have played many games and despite all that we have had an extraordinary season right from the start.”
Prandelli was told that former Fiorentina hitman Luca Toni bagged a brace this evening to give Bayern Munich the German Cup in extra time against Bayer Leverkusen.
“I am very pleased for him and of course wish him all the best in his career.”
Rosanero Coach Colantuono disagrees with this interpretation of the match despite Leandro Rinaudo’s dismissal.
“I think we would have deserved a draw because we played well in the first half and in the second only struggled for 10-15 minutes.
“We created a couple of clear chances, but unfortunately it didn’t go well. I saw a team with the characteristics I like, playing all the way even in a precarious situation.
“Talk of the future can wait, as now we must focus on finishing this season on a high so that we can continue to challenge for an Intertoto Cup spot.”
