Di Carlo takes control
Sunday 19 April, 2009

Chievo are not entirely clear of the drop zone yet, but Mimmo Di Carlo assures “our fate is in our hands.”

The Flying Donkeys were propping up the table for long swathes of the season, but since the turn of the year have found their form, including a shock 3-3 draw away to Juventus.

“Now we are in the race to stay in Serie A and the credit must go to the lads who never gave up even in the most difficult moments,” said their Coach.

“However, a five-point advantage over the relegation zone is not enough to relax. It’s still wide open for everyone and until it’s mathematically sealed, nobody is done for.

“Our fate is in our hands and this is not the time to look at what other teams are doing. We just have to focus on ourselves, preparing for each game and working together.”

This afternoon’s match could be decisive, as Chievo travel to a Siena side that is practically safe from the drop.

“Marco Giampaolo’s team are going through a fine period of form and coming off a great victory away to Bologna. I’d hardly consider this an ‘easy’ game. We respect Siena and know they’ll give it everything they’ve got.”

Chievo must do without the injured Stephen Makinwa, Fabio Moro, ‘Foquinha’ Kerlon and Francesco Scardina.
