Sacked Torino boss Walter Novellino launched a scathing attack on the Granata ‘cry-babies’ who he thinks got him fired.
The Coach was given his marching orders just hours after President Urbano Cairo gave a public show of support and has been replaced by Gianni De Biasi.
He has so far been reticent to reveal the background to this dismissal, but gave hints as to the murky in-fighting in an interview with satire show Striscia La Notizia.
“I have my character and I say things to people’s faces,” explained Novellino.
“I can’t work when it becomes wrong to say to a player that he is making a mistake, especially if they then go crying to the patron…”
Novellino had well-known disagreements with fan favourite Alessandro Rosina and even his rapport with Alvaro Recoba began to sour.
Toro were expected to do great things this season, but are still in the thick of the relegation battle.
“Great names count for nothing, in football what matters is that you run.”
