Roma confirm takeover bid
Friday 18 April, 2008

Roma’s holding company have confirmed an offer was made by a potential buyer, fuelling reports George Soros is on the verge of taking over.

The past few months have seen repeated rumours that American millionaire Soros was planning a takeover bid for the Giallorossi, though up until now they have been strongly denied.

However, today the official club website released a statement on the matter.

“Yesterday a representative given this charge by Compagnia Italpetroli S.p.a was visited by a representative of someone potentially interested in buying up the shares of AS Roma,” read the statement.

Italpetroli are the company founded in the 1960s by President Franco Sensi and are the majority shareholders in the side.

Although there are no specific names in the release, it is believed Soros is behind it and is preparing a massive investment to buy out the Sensi family.

He would pump the cash back into the team and the transfer kitty, creating a world beating squad for next season.

“I don’t know anything about it, so I will continue to act the way I always have,” commented Luciano Spalletti.

“The owners of this club worked hard to improve the team and give moments of great joy to the fans, so I think we will continue along this path and keep on planning.”
