Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn insists that Azzurri star Luca Toni is one of the best strikers ever to play for the Bavarian giants.
The giant Modena native has been at his predatory best since arriving from Fiorentina last summer and his 33 goals in all competitions have helped keep Die Roten in contention for four trophies.
“He is one of the best I have ever seen playing here at Bayern in terms of striking qualities,” Kahn, who is retiring from football at the end of this campaign, said.
“He is a poacher and there are very few of those around. He is at home in the penalty area and he is always in the right place, so he doesn’t need many chances to score.”
Bayern seem to have the Bundesliga title in the bag and face Russians Zenit St Petersburg in the UEFA Cup semi-finals, but they are focused on delivering success in their domestic Cup Final this weekend to give captain Kahn a triumphant conclusion to his career.
“Kahn’s career speaks for itself,” Toni stressed. “He has won an extraordinary amount, but you can see that he still wants to reach the top and we will all help him win something important on Saturday.”
Toni has already lifted silverware at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium when he won the World Cup in the summer of 2006 – the first trophy of his career.
“I am sure that my teammates Willy Sagnol and Franck Ribery have different memories of that day,” he grinned.
“But Berlin has been good to me and when you go into the stadium and see the trophy there on view, you get overawed by the idea of having that in your hands at the end of the game.
“I hope that we are fortunate and we are able to celebrate at the end of this weekend’s game.”
