Bordeaux’s Argentine striking ace Fernando Cavenaghi admits that he is dreaming of a move to Napoli.
The 24-year-old was seen as a huge prospect when he was at River Plate, but he failed to deliver at Spartak Moscow at the start of his European adventure.
However, the man known as “The Bull” has found his shooting boots since moving to Bordeaux last year and has fired 14 Ligue 1 goals for the Girondins and is hoping to take his talent to Serie A.
“I know that Napoli were asking after me and that my name is on their shopping list and that fills me with pride,” he told Il Mattino.
“The Partenopei are a rejuvenated and ambitious club with a prestigious past and most of all Naples is a city that intrigues and fascinates me.
“It is a city that runs on football. I know that a great Argentine player Omar Sivori said that to understand what passion is in football every player should play for Napoli at least once.”
If he joined the Azzurri, Cavenaghi would be able to link up with compatriot Ezequiel Lavezzi, who is making waves at the Stadio San Paolo.
“Lavezzi has recommended me? Then I thank him. It would be fantastic if the two clubs could come to an agreement,” Cavenaghi enthused.
“I wouldn’t be difficult to negotiate with. However, I can’t forget that I am under contract with Bordeaux and I am grateful to have a contract until 2012 and to be at a club who are having an important season.”
Reports suggest that Napoli would have to find in the region of £6m to prise Cavenaghi away from Bordeaux.
