Flamengo turn down Vieri
Friday 17 April, 2009

Christian Vieri offered himself to Brazilian club Flamengo and was turned down, announced the Vice-President.

The striker is still looking to extend his career after terminating his contract with Atalanta a few weeks ago.

There were reports – denied by the player – that he had asked for a trial with LA Galaxy and was rejected.

However this time the statement comes from the Brazilian side Flamengo and Vice-President Kleber Leite.

“Vieri was offered to us, but we turned him down,” he was quoted as saying in the Brazilian media.

“Without the aid of a sponsor, we are not able to pay for his contract.”

Vieri turns 36 in July and has barely played for the last few years, ending contracts at Inter, Milan, Monaco, Sampdoria – a side he left in the summer of 2006 before attending a single training session – Fiorentina and Atalanta.
