Official - Toro appoint De Biasi
Wednesday 16 April, 2008

Torino have officially unveiled Gianni De Biasi as their new tactician after Walter Novellino’s departure earlier today.

President Urbano Cairo lost faith in Novellino after last weekend’s 3-0 defeat against Genoa made it five defeats from their last six.

De Biasi has been in charge of Spanish strugglers Levante, but the man who led Toro to safety last term has been called back for a third spell at the club.

“Having already had him here for a year and a half, we know him and I have seen the right qualities,” Cairo explained at his Press conference.

“He has experience and knows how to motivate the players, so he is the right man for the job.

“Our relationship has restarted as if there wasn’t an interruption. There have been moments in the past when we weren’t on the same wavelength, but we immediately were back in harmony.

“We signed at 3am this morning and the agreement is set to be extended at the end of the season once safety is guaranteed.”

Cairo also explained his decision to sack Novellino and denied he was influenced by fans’ protests.

“I wasn’t pushed by the fans or the players,” he insisted. “Nobody asked me to sack Novellino.

“Unfortunately, after the last few games, even if it was partly bad luck, the situation became worrying.”
