Marcello Lippi has quashed reports he will act as consultant to Roberto Donadoni for the Euro 2008 expedition.
The shadow of the 2006 World Cup winner looms large over the current Azzurri boss.
“Donadoni does not need any of my advice. He has an excellent squad at his disposal with many options available,” assured Lippi in a talk at the University of Messina.
“Besides, he is a very gifted and able Coach.”
The media in the peninsula continues to suggest Lippi will replace Donadoni should the tournament in Austria and Switzerland not end with at least a semi-final spot.
Others maintained last week that he would be drafted in by the Federation to ‘guide’ his successor through the competition.
Lippi resigned as Italy Coach a few days after lifting the 2006 World Cup in Germany, but has hinted he would not reject a return to the bench.
