Delio Rossi believes Lazio can save their season by beating Inter in the Coppa Italia semi-final tomorrow.
“It is a difficult game, but it can give us the opportunity to get into Europe,” said the Coach.
“The Coppa Italia is a very important competition. We are going to San Siro in order to play our style of football and cannot make calculations. We need a result immediately.”
The second leg will be at the Stadio Olimpico on May 7 and, if Champions League entrants Roma win the other semi against Catania, a place in the Final could automatically send Lazio into the UEFA Cup.
“Inter are in good shape and have rediscovered their confidence. You can see that by the way the players on the bench join in the celebrations when there is a goal,” continued Rossi.
“I have faith in my players, as we never get the big games wrong. We have to give 110 per cent and hope our opponents don’t do the same.”
The Biancocelesti only faced Inter on March 29 in Serie A, holding them to a 1-1 draw at the Olimpico in which the home side hit the woodwork three times.
Gaby Mudingayi is not in the squad and Rolando Bianchi is expected to start upfront with Tommaso Rocchi and Goran Pandev.
Veteran Marco Ballotta returns to the sticks after Nestor Muslera’s howler allowed Siena an equaliser on Sunday.
“I don’t think we were disappointing against Siena. I haven’t spoken to Muslera. He knows he made a mistake, but he has my support.”
