Secco stands by market moves
Monday 14 April, 2008

Much maligned Juventus sporting director Alessio Secco has defended his transfer policy. "The signings have been impeccable."

There has been widespread criticism directed at Secco for bringing in Jean-Alain Boumsong, Tiago Mendes and Sergio Almiron, while letting Adrian Mutu leave and attempting to sell Giorgio Chiellini.

Whispers have suggested that Juve will replace Secco with Napoli’s Pierpaolo Marino this summer, but the Bianconeri transfer guru stands by his efforts.

“Sometimes we regret certain decisions,” Secco told Tuttosport. “No man is immune from mistakes in the market and it is too easy to talk with hindsight.

“From time to time I regret Mutu leaving, but everything happened at a dramatic time in the club’s history. Rafa Benitez possibly regrets letting Momo Sissoko go.

“But I think that the players who have signed for Juve over the past couple of seasons have been impeccable.”

Sissoko has impressed in his time with the Old Lady, despite his arrival being greeted with cynicism by fans and journalists alike.

“It’s no secret that we followed Sissoko for more than a year,” Secco explained.

“In the end we were able to buy him and he has gone beyond our expectations to tell the truth. In my opinion, he is the best midfielder in our League today.”
