Cesare Prandelli has lost both meetings with Inter this season, but insists Fiorentina could not have done anything more.
“I cannot reprimand my players for anything. This is the 50th game we have played this year and yet we are having a great campaign in Serie A and Europe,” said the Coach.
The 2-0 loss at San Siro came just three days after their exploits in the UEFA Cup, winning 2-0 away to PSV Eindhoven to reach the semi-finals.
Their four-point lead in fourth place is still intact, as Milan, Udinese and Sampdoria also faltered this weekend.
“I hope we can hold on to it until the end, although it will be difficult. We should be proud of what we are achieving and take it one game at a time.”
Sebastien Frey was Fiorentina’s best player on the night, as despite carrying a knee injury and suffering a new thigh problem during the match, he performed a string of fantastic saves.
“He picked up two nasty knocks in as many matches, but when someone like him wants to stay on the field and grit his teeth through the pain, a Coach cannot help but be happy.”
