Luciano Spalletti warns the Scudetto race is peppered with potential pitfalls and explains the extraordinary Christian Panucci-Alexander Doni row.
“The dangers are always around every corner. We cannot afford a single mistake,” said the Roma boss after their 3-1 win in Udine.
The result took them to within a point of Inter, but tonight the leaders welcome Fiorentina to San Siro.
“Inter have to drop some points too, otherwise on our own we cannot do everything.”
There were some extremely tense moments at the Stadio Friuli, as after Antonio Di Natale’s opener teammates Panucci and Doni had to be separated while arguing over who was at fault.
“There was a misunderstanding,” assured Spalletti. “Mistakes can happen, we have to do well to deal with these things within the group and then move on. The pressure was there because we absolutely needed a result.”
Francesco Totti also lost his cool and was booked for repeatedly insulting the referee, who accidentally got in the way of his shot.
“In terms of technique there are few who can match Totti, but it needs to be supported by hard work and stamina. Quality is not enough to win games.
“The referee made a mistake to get in Totti’s way, but after the initial reaction he should have stopped and was rightly booked.”
