Del Piero "starving" for success
Sunday 13 April, 2008

Alessandro Del Piero believes his blistering form is due to his “hunger” for success and Euro 2008 ambitions.

The Juventus captain was in great shape and scored in last night’s 3-2 victory over Milan.

“There are many reasons for my form. I am certainly hungry for success – starved, in fact – and that makes a difference.”

The year in Serie B has left Juve and their leader feeling a desire to prove themselves and make up for the titles lost to Calciopoli.

Del Piero’s other prime objective this summer is to get back into Roberto Donadoni’s Italy squad for Euro 2008.

Although the Coach has been reticent to name him of late, the famed Panini sticker company placed Del Piero in their publication for the competition.

“Thank you, Panini,” he grinned when told of the move.

Before kick-off in the Stadio Olimpico last night, Del Piero was handed a special shirt commemorating the fact he beat Gaetano Scirea’s record of 552 appearances for the club.

“Scirea was not only an example for me, but for everyone in this sport. He is untouchable.”
