Toni books Fiorentina reunion
Sunday 13 April, 2008

Luca Toni hopes to face former club Fiorentina in the UEFA Cup Final after single-handedly sending Bayern Munich through.

The German outfit have been among the favourites from the start, but needed a last-gasp Toni brace in extra time to secure a 3-3 draw at Getafe.

“I have never played a game like it. That was just incredible,” said the Italian international.

“We had so many chances to score and yet conceded on the counter. We needed more tactical rigour in that situation.

“I didn’t give up because it seemed absurd to go out like that. I am still hungry and want to win this tournament so we can focus on the Champions League next season.”

Toni will be suspended for the first leg of the semi-final against Zenit St Petersburg, while Fiorentina take on Glasgow Rangers.

“There are only three games to go in this competition, we cannot fail now. I am very happy that the Viola won, as you know how I have always felt about this Final…”

From the moment Toni completed his transfer to Bayern Munich in the summer, he said he would love to face Fiorentina in the UEFA Cup Final.

Cesare Prandelli’s side qualified for the semis after a 2-0 away victory at PSV Eindhoven this week.
