After days of speculation, Inter striker Adriano has confirmed his decision to take a break from football.
The Brazilian international went AWOL in his homeland after a World Cup 2010 qualifier against Peru.
And Adriano's personal problems seem to have led him to take a Sabbatical from the game.
I'm not ill as many people have said - I don't need doctors or psychiatrists - but I just need to stay calm here with my family and the people who love me, L'Imperatore said at a Press conference in Rio de Janeiro.
I am ready to give up money - that isn't the important thing in my life. I just need to be away from the jealousy and the continuous gossip.
There have been rumours that Adriano is spending time with some questionable characters in Brazil.
It's not true that my friends are delinquents, he said. Of course you can find drug dealers in the favelas where I was born but I don't hang around with them.
Adriano's agent Gilmar Rinaldi is due in Milan on Monday to discuss his client's future with the Nerazzurri.
