The England ace, who has faced Ancelotti's Milan twice in Champions League Finals, believes that the former Rossoneri Coach is a great manager. “Ancelotti certainly has my respect and Chelsea are lucky to have him,” Gerrard said. “He is very organized and puts together teams that are organised. He can change formations at any time, change the personnel and is a fantastic manger for sure.”

Bendtner attacks Ibra
Inter striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic does not know what he is talking about, according to Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner. Ibra hit out at Arsene Wenger's transfer policy saying he felt sorry for the Arsenal fans having to watch such a young, unproven team all the time but Bendtner disagrees. “He is not correct and his words don't make any sense at all,” said the Dane. “We could've performed better this season but we did reach the semi-final in the FA Cup and the Champions League. Further than his Inter side. We scored as many goals as Manchester United and that shows what we are capable of. And in the Premier League there's so much competition because it's the best league in the world. It's clearly better than Zlatan's league, Serie A.”

Macheda is a lucky boy
Federico Macheda's debut last season was more by chance than good judgment claims Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan. The former Lazio starlet scored a breathtaking goal but his introduction was based on a hunch more than anything. “We took a calculated risk and it worked,” insisted Phelan. “Of course, no-one will ever forget how we won the game… it was fairytale stuff for Federico. For the boy to come into such an important, tight game and score a winning goal of that quality was amazing. The manager and the staff just had a hunch about him before the game. He'd been performing well in training and scored a hat-trick in for the Reserves.”

Gattuso hails Ancelotti
Milan midfield ace Gennaro Gattuso has no doubts his former boss Carlo Ancelotti will be able to deal with the massive egos in the Chelsea team. “If there are any attitudes that do not fit in with his way of thinking at Chelsea, they will learn very quickly that they need to change that attitude,” he said. “In England, Alex Ferguson is famous for his treatment in the dressing room when things are not as he wants, and the same is true with Carlo. When he is not happy you will know about it. He does not act that way to try to be a big man or because he likes the sound of his own voice. He does it because he knows it is for the good of the team.”

Man Utd monitor Lavezzi
Napoli striker Ezequiel Lavezzi has been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool but reports in Italy suggest Manchester United could hijack the move. Despite saying he would respect his contract with the Partenopei he has written an open letter to Napoli fans indicating he will be leaving the club. Italian reports suggest that Lavezzi's agent has met with Manchester United representatives in Madrid to discuss a possible move to Old Trafford, while English reports claim a move to Liverpool is pending. His agent, Alejandro Mazzoni, said: “There is a very real offer from a team who are playing in the Champions League and where he would earn much more than here.”

Ancelotti imports Milan style
New Chelsea Coach Carlo Ancelotti wants to import the techniques Milan use to extend the careers of their veteran players. English reports claim that the former Rossoneri boss will talk it over with the Chelsea medical boss to talk him through a pre-season training programme designed to extend the careers of an ageing squad. Originally formulated by the exclusive MilanLab, inside Milanello the club's training ground near Lake Como, technicians used the programme to extend the careers of Alessandro Costacurta, who retired at 41, and Paolo Maldini, who recently retired at aged 40.

Mancio wants Pompey talks
Roberto Mancini wants to speak to Portsmouth about taking over as manager, according to his agent. However, a contract dispute with his former club Inter could stop him taking over at Fratton Park. “We haven't had any propositions from any club yet, but Roberto will speak to any English club that has a project for the future,” said Giorgio De Giorgis. “Portsmouth and Sunderland could be the ones we would speak to if we were contacted. But Roberto is still under contract at Inter. It is not a simple task to get him out of the contract, it's not easy. Inter have to call the shots first, it depends mostly on them.”

Lupoli is a Blade
Fiorentina striker Arturo Lupoli is desperate to join Sheffield United after his spell on loan with the Championship side. However, the 21-year-old claims it all depends on his parent club back in Italy. “I would love to stay at Sheffield United, but it is up to both them and Fiorentina to sort things out,” he said. “It would be a great option for me to stay in Sheffield because I want to establish myself at a club now, after three different loan spells in the last two years. I got a call two days ago informing me that Sheffield United are in talks with Fiorentina about keeping me permanently, but whether it will go further depends on whether they can come to an agreement.”

Mancio rejects Sunderland talk
Roberto Mancini's agent has dismissed suggestions the former Inter Coach is to be named manager of Sunderland. The former Lazio ace was quoted on Sunday as saying he had been offered the job on Wearside. “Mancini is aware of the reports but we have not received an offer, nor have we been in touch with anyone from Sunderland,” said Giorgio De Giorgis. “But there has been interest from England.”

Terry welcomes Ancelotti
Chelsea captain John Terry has welcomed Carlo Ancelotti's reported arrival at Stamford Bridge and claims it could be the start of something very good. Ancelotti has been strongly linked with the manager's job at the Bridge and Terry believes his arrival could herald a whole host of changes. “I think a few of the backroom staff have worked with him before, and Andriy Shevchenko speaks very highly of him,” said the England captain. “If he's the man to come in, then he's got a great bunch of lads to come in and work with. Knowing him and knowing us, it could be the start of something very good.”

Mou blasts Premier League
Inter Coach Jose Mourinho claims that Serie A has greater depth than the Premiership. The former Chelsea boss insists that apart from the top three clubs the standard of English football is much weaker. “I would say that at the top the level of English football is higher than in Italy,” he said. “Manchester United are better than Inter, Liverpool are better than AC Milan and Chelsea are better than Juventus, to give three examples. But from there down Italian football is much stronger. In England I won a lot of easy games, by margins that leave no room for doubt. Here in Italy this has never happened. On the contrary, the smaller teams were always capable of causing us problems.”

Sven poised for Pompey?
Former Lazio boss Sven Goran Eriksson could return to England with Portsmouth, according to The Guardian. The Swedish tactician has flirted with Pompey in the past and is a free agent after being dismissed by Mexico. “There is nothing concrete as far as I know, but the Premier League is always interesting,” Eriksson's assistant Hasse Backe told Expressen. “Right now we don't know anything, but we'll have a month off and then we'll see.”

Juve look to Wenger
Juventus may look to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger when they fill their hot seat this summer. The battle for the Old Lady post seemed to be between current caretaker Ciro Ferrara and Bari boss Antonio Conte, but reports in Tuttosport claim that Wenger is an option. The French tactician has had a disappointing season with the Gunners and his relationship with the fans is strained - this may be the perfect time for a fresh challenge.

Viola for Martins move?
Newcastle United striker Obafemi Martins is being linked with a move back to Italy with Fiorentina monitoring him, according to Italian reports. The former Inter star began his senior career with the Nerazzurri and has often claimed he would like to return to the peninsula. This season, United's No 9 has spent much of the season flying back to Italy as he still puts faith in his Italian personal physician. La Nazione says Fiorentina sports chief Pantaleo Corvino sees the Nigerian international as an ideal foil for centre forward Alberto Gilardino.

Naka to decide future
Shunsuke Nakamura left for Japan earlier this week to decide his future with Yokohama Marinos reportedly ready to sign him. The Japanese playmaker, who joined Celtic from Reggina in 2005, soon became a terrace hero with his skill on the ball and praised his former Coach Gordon Strachan for his success at Parkhead. “He was a great boss. He always treated me well and once called me a genius,” he said. “He was strict about the way he used players and gave young talent a chance. He was a top player himself and I can use what I've learned from him as a player.”

Zola expects Savio effect
Former Brescia striker Savio Nsereko can make a major impact with West Ham next year, according to the club's sporting director Gianluca Nani. The Italian has asked fans to be patient with the 19-year-old and insists that Savio can transform the club into top-six challengers next season. “Savio is a young player with a big future and he's come in from another country, but we are really confident about him,” he said. “But he has not had one day of rest during the last year - last summer he was in the European Under-19 championships then without any rest he was back at Brescia, then in January he had no time off before coming here. He needs time.”

Ade cools Milan interest
Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor insists he is happy to stay at Arsenal despite reported interest from Milan. The Togo international striker has repeatedly been linked with a move to San Siro and while he admits he is flattered by interest from Italy, he claims he is only interested in playing for Arsenal. “All I can say is I am a footballer and if a club like Milan are interested in me then I cannot lie to you, I am happy, because it is Milan,” said the former Monaco star. “But the thing is that it stops there - I am very happy playing for Arsenal, and this is what I always say.”

Race for Arna hots up

The Blues are prepared to pay £12m, according to English reports after Inter's bid of £10m was rejected by the Dutch club's President Joop Munsterman. The Italians were told to come back with at least another £2m but while Jose Mourinho held talks with his president, Chelsea offered the extra £2m and were given permission to open talks with the Austrian over personal terms.

Baldini and buyout
England team manager Franco Baldini has admitted that he has been approached by a consortium planning to buyout Roma. Donati eyes Atalanta
Celtic midfielder Massimo Donati wants to leave Parkhead this summer and return to Italy, preferably with Atalanta. The former Milan winger has not made much of an impression in Glasgow and would be allowed to leave with both Atalanta and Palermo interested. “I really would like to get home this time,” said the 28-year-old. “There were talks in January but unfortunately things didn't work out. Hopefully, this time we'll find a solution for the sake of my career and my family. Atalanta would be perfect for me. It's my second home, my second family and I have only good memories of my time there. Palermo are a great club too, so why not?”

Milan to buy Barry?
Milan have been linked with a move for Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry, according to English reports. The England ace could exploit UEFA rules that would allow him to buy out the remainder of his contract, which has a year to run, and move to another country on a free. The report claims that Barry, who has also been heavily linked with Liverpool, would be offered £100,000 a week by the Rossoneri to move to San Siro.

Mou fights Chelsea corner
Inter Coach Jose Mourinho claims his old team Chelsea should be facing Manchester United in the Champions League Final and not Barcelona. The Portuguese tactician believes that several wrong refereeing decisions fell in favour of the Catalan giants. “One thing that I want to say is that Chelsea deserved to be in the Final,” he said. “Barça are a top team but they weren't better than Chelsea. Were there bad decisions? Yes. Were Barcelona lucky? Yes. The Chelsea players deserve to be happy, they have almost been European champions for the last five years. I am sad for them.”

Dacourt could call it a day
Olivier Dacourt could retire from football following the end of his six-month loan spell with Fulham. The French midfielder failed to make an impression at Craven Cottage and wants to leave England. “Olivier came here making it clear he would be here only until the end of the season,” said the Cottagers' boss Roy Hodgson. “I think he's contemplating retirement now, although I'd hope that's not the case as I think he has a lot more to offer - although it wouldn't be in England due to his family situation.”

Zola hails Hammers
West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola is clearly pleased with his team's performances this season as they finished in eighth place in the Premier League in his debut season. The Italian Coach was delighted with the way they ended the season with a 2-1 win over relegated Middlesbrough on Sunday at Upton Park. “It's been a fantastic season,” said the Cagliari legend. “Today was a perfect way to finish it. It's been a team performance and credit has to go to everyone. We now have to build on what we have done. The structure is there so we will keep moving.”

Jose eyes Carvalho
Inter Coach Jose Mourinho has admitted that he wants to sign Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho. Villa want Olof back
Juventus defender Olof Mellberg is being linked with a return to Aston Villa, according to English reports. Despite Villa boss Martin O'Neill denying claims the Swedish defender could return to Villa Park, speculation in the Midlands suggests that he is considering trying to entice Mellberg back to the club. Dzeko puts Italy first
Chelsea target Edin Dzeko has revealed that he would prefer a move to Serie A rather than the Premiership. Wolfsburg's Bosnian striker has scored 28 goals in 39 games, which have helped his German side top the Bundesliga and has also been the subject of speculation linking him with Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United. “I know that Chelsea want me and they have already spoken to my agent,” said the 23-year-old. “It's too early to talk about the market, my dream is to play in the Italian League, especially with Milan or Juventus.”

Inter Coach Jose Mourinho has said he will bring Ricardo Quaresma back to the San Siro if he changes his attitude. The Portuguese winger, who is on loan at Chelsea, has hardly lit up Stamford Bridge with his attitude and Mourinho has revealed he will need to show more of a work ethic if he wants a Nerazzurri future. “It is likely that he will return to us,” said the Portuguese tactician. “He must then show a different mentality to that which we saw during his first few months at Inter.”

Spurs open Iaquinta talks
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly holding talks with Juventus over the possible transfer of striker Vincenzo Iaquinta. The 29 year-old Italian international fell out of favour with former Coach Claudio Ranieri and is expected to be part of a cull of older players from the squad. Despite just 26 appearances, with many coming as a substitute, Iaquinta still scored ten goals and would surely receive more playing time under Spurs' boss Harry Redknapp.

Xabi race starts again
Juventus have once again been linked with a move for Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso. However, his agent has refused to rule out a summer move. “Many things could happen in the summer,” said Ignacio Ibanez. “The first is to finish the season and after that to attend to other matters.”

Spurs to go for Goran?
Tottenham are one of several European clubs interested in Lazio striker Goran Pandev, according to his agent. The Macedonian international is yet to sort out a new contract with the Biancocelesti, which has prompted speculation over his future. “Hamburg and Tottenham are among the teams most interested, but are not the only ones on a European level who are looking,” said Alessandro Corsi. “We are talking about a player who has a high market level for his technical qualities, age and experience. I would prefer to talk about these things when I meet with the President, but I believe that Pandev is developing the idea of leaving Lazio.”

Hughes happy for Boji
Valeri Bojinov scored his first League goal for Manchester City at the weekend, just four minutes after coming on as a substitute in the 2-1 defeat by Tottenham. The former Fiorentina forward, who has only played in 10 games since his move from Italy in 2007, delighted his Coach Mark Hughes, who was pleased that the Bulgarian international appears to have overcome his injury problems. “We were all pleased for Boji,” said Hughes. “It was important that he got back on the goal scoring trail and everybody saw what it meant to him.”

Prem's too foreign, says Lippi
Azzurri Coach Marcello Lippi has drawn attention to the fact that although English football is dominating Europe there are drawbacks to this situation. One of the main problems he says is the one facing his England counterpart Fabio Capello. “Everyone praises English football, but the Premier League is anything but English,” he said. “The owners and the Coaches are mostly foreign and the teams are also full of foreigners. Capello can choose from 38 per cent of the Premier League players, while I can choose from 60 per cent of Serie A.”

Zola proud of Hammers
West Ham Coach Gianfranco Zola has revealed how proud he is with his players this season despite their loss to Everton at the weekend. The defeat means the Hammers have missed out on a place in the Europa League but Zola still maintains his team has been magnificent. “The players are very disappointed,” said the Italian legend. “But that does not take anything anyway from our season. I am really pleased and proud to be their manager. Considering all the problems that were around the club, all the injuries we had, the players have done a fantastic job. I have promised them that next season we will be much better. I do believe that.”

Laursen to retire
Aston Villa's Martin Laursen has revealed why he is retiring from football at the end of the season. The former Milan defender suffered a terrible knee injury and realised it would be best for his long-term health to hang up his boots. “I cannot recover from my knee injury so I have to retire,” said the Denmark international. “Football has always been my life. I've been a professional since 1997 and done nothing else. It is weird and I am really sad. I'm now almost 32 and you cannot play football forever. You have to stop some time.”
