The MCG might be more than twice the size (which delights Melbourne's sports-mad inhabitants), but no other ground in Australia quite captures the spirit of cricket like the SCG. A clever combination of modern structures and a sense of the past makes cricket (and other sports) at Sydney a special pleasure, and a must for visitors to the city. The SCG is part of a larger sports complex which includes the Sydney Football Stadium, and extensive members' facilities, although visiting Poms are more likely to head for the SCG's famous 'Hill' now somewhat redeveloped since in 1970s' heyday as 'The Doug Walters Stand'. The building behind The Hill is a police station, which can be handy when a combination of searing heat and the amber fluid take effect later in the day.
