Sydney

 Sydney

The MCG might be more than twice the size (which delights Melbourne's sports-mad inhabitants), but no other ground in Australia quite captures the spirit of cricket like the SCG. A clever combination of modern structures and a sense of the past makes cricket (and other sports) at Sydney a special pleasure, and a must for visitors to the city. The SCG is part of a larger sports complex which includes the Sydney Football Stadium, and extensive members' facilities, although visiting Poms are more likely to head for the SCG's famous 'Hill' – now somewhat redeveloped since in 1970s' heyday as 'The Doug Walters Stand'. The building behind The Hill is a police station, which can be handy when a combination of searing heat and the amber fluid take effect later in the day.
