Simply the home of cricket. Fans from all over the world travel every year to the Lord's Test match which is traditionally the second of the rubber and held in June, although in recent years it has hosted two matches. Lord's has seen many famous battles over the years and is home to the Ashes urn.
The ground is named after Thomas Lord, who laid the first turf in St John's Wood and from whom the MCC bought the land in 1825.
The ground has changed much since old Thomas Lord's day and is now one of the most modern and impressive cricket venues in the world. The Mound Stand and new Grandstand complement each other and make an aesthetically pleasing sight. The latest construction project was the building of the new media centre at the Nursery End which won a clutch of architectural awards.
The famous Lord's slope has undone many batsmen over the years but the ground still remains the place where every international cricketer would like to play.
The ground is home to the MCC, the England & Wales Cricket Board, Middlesex County Cricket Club and the International Cricket Council.
