The Premadasa Stadium, also known as the Khattarama Stadium, is in the centre of Colombo's commercial heartland.
The ground, named after a former president of the country, can hold 40,000 people and only hosted its maiden ODI (between Sri Lanka and New Zealand) 1996.
It remains the only ground in Sri Lanka with permanent floodlights, a key factor which enabled it to host the ICC Champions Trophy final in 2002/3.
Although primarily an ODI venue - there had been 60 ODIs there prior to England's arrival in November 2003 - it has also held five Tests.
Memorably, one of those was against India in 1997/8 when Sanath Jayasuriya scored 340 out of Sri Lanka's mammoth 952-6 declared.
England have played four ODIs there, losing twice to Sri Lanka (in 1992/3 and 2000/1) before beating Zimbabwe (when Marcus Trescothick scored 119) and going down to India in the 2002/3 ICC Champions Trophy.
