A cavernous ground by English standards that when empty is a soulless place. However, it comes alive for international cricket and, the vagaries of the pitch allowing can produce some
marvellous matches.
The drama of its first Test match has set the tone for games at Edgbaston. In 1902 Australia were bowled out for 36, with Victor Trumper scoring half of the total, and
no other batsman passing five. The score remains Australia's lowest in Test cricket.
The pavilion houses the dressing rooms and committee rooms with the new Bob Wyatt stand, opened in 1995, contains corporate facilities and covered seating.
