VENUE PROFILE

Centurion

 Centurion

The newest of the major South African grounds, Centurion Park has been a regular Test venue since it hosted the rain-affected 1st Test of England's 1995-96 tour.

It is the home of Northern Transvaal cricket having taken over from Berea Park in 1986, and is situated in Centurion, just south of Pretoria in the province of Gauteng.

Pretoria is known as an area for the more refined tourist and the ground caters for this, with barbecues in the evenings a feature of the cricket.

The grass banks which comprise much of the spectator area make Centurion Park an ideal venue for family viewing, and help to make it one of the more aesthetically appealing grounds in world cricket.

A number of hospitality suites have been erected at the Pavilion End for corporate viewing, swelling the capacity of the ground to almost 20,000.

Tends to offer a feisty surface with no side yet to pass 400 in a Test there. Graeme Hick's 141 in 1995-96 remains the highest Test score on this ground.
