The home of Western Province, the Newlands ground in Cape Town has been staging Test cricket for over a century.
The ground is renowned for its excellent atmosphere, with the town having a large Cape Colored population who are fanatical about cricket.
This much-changed ground has an increasing emphasis on corporate amenities and sports facilities such as squash and tennis courts.
Cape Town has become something of a fortress for South Africa, who going into the series with New Zealand in 2000-01 had won their last six Tests there.
It was here that England were suffered a chastening defeat in the 5th, series-deciding Test in January 1996, after a decisive partnership of 73 between Dave Richardson and Paul Adams sparked the infamous war of words between Raymond Illingworth and Devon Malcolm, whose wayward bowling was felt by many to have cost England the series.
