THE CRICKET SHOW

Week 2 Preview - 24 May

The day Connor met The Gaffer

The contrasting appeals of youth and experience will be examined on this week's Cricket Show as the Channel 4 selectors run their gaze over the varying merits of Alec Stewart and Jim Troughton.

Stewart, known universally as 'The Gaffer', continues to defy age, critics and gravity by marrying exhaustive fitness with his undiminished talent and remains England's sole world class all-rounder despite passing 40 in April.

This week he tells all to C4's Clare Connor, restating how and why he's still hungry for success after more than two decades in the game, a feat recognised by Surrey awarding him a testimonial this year.

At the other end of the age spectrum is Warwickshire's exciting new batting talent Jim Troughton, 24, grandson of former Dalek-exterminating Dr Who Patrick Troughton.

The free-scoring left-hander has been in coruscating form with the bat this year and has been widely tipped for England selection at some point during the summer, possibly in the one-day squad.

He came to prominence with a match-winning half century against Essex in last year's B&H Cup final and has continued to nudge the selectors with his positive start to this campaign.

Elsewhere on the programme there will the usual round-up of news and views from the county circuit, as well as an update on progress in the 1st npower Test between England and Zimbabwe at Lord's.

There will also be a light-hearted feature on who is England's unluckiest cricketer.
