CRICKET ROADSHOWS

Week 11 Preview - 20 Jul, Southampton
Tendulkar heads Roadshow bill |
He's the No 1 ranked Test batsman in the world, he's already scored 14 more ODI centuries than anyone else in the history of the game and on Saturday's Cricket Roadshow he'll be giving an exclusive Masterclass on the art of batting. He is, of course, India's Sachin Tendulkar.
Not only is he currently the undisputed king of his trade but Tendulkar, or the "Little Master" as he's affectionately known, is so much more than a mere sportsman - he is a national icon in a country of more than a billion. His popularity is such it makes the Beckham-mania World Cup frenzy seem like a playground game of kiss-chase.
Bearing all of that in mind it's a major coup to get him on the Roadshow this weekend, broadcast live from the India-Hampshire tour match at the Rose Bowl, where he will be giving away a few of the secrets of his phenomenal success and looking forward to the impending four-Test series against England.
What sort of team England will put out at Lord's still remains a mystery in light of the injuries to Andy Caddick, Marcus Trescothick and Alex Tudor, but all will be revealed on Saturday when chairman of selectors David Graveney once more names the 1st Test squad live on the Roadshow.
Will the Glmaorgan express Simon Jones finally get the call for a starting spot this time or have the selectors been looking elsewhere for their bowling attack? What odds a recall for Lord's specialist Dominic Cork? Or how about the prodigiously talented youngster Ian Bell? Tune in on Saturday morning to find out as Graveney makes the announcement live.
Elsewhere on the programme the Roadshow looks at Hampshire's innovative new ground and asks whether the Rose Bowl, complete with sundry other sporting facilities, is the blueprint for the future, or can counties really survive just on their cricket gate receipts and ECB handouts?
The programme also takes a look at the influence cricket has had on architecture in recent and not so recent time most notably at Lord's while England captain Nasser Hussain opens up his heart in a frank and forthright interview about how his team performed in the hugely entertaining NatWest Series and what lies ahead for his team over the next six weeks against India.
There will also be all the usual Roadshow features, including a county round-up and a look ahead to next week's 1st npower Test between England and India at Lord's.
