Roadshow gets B&H Cup fever |
The Cricket Roadshow pays homage to the Benson & Hedges Cup on Saturday ahead of its final Lord's showpiece after 31 glorious years as the game's longest serving domestic sponsor.
It all began back in 1972 when former Leicestershire's Raymond Illingworth got one over on his former employers, Yorkshire, and it has been going strong ever since. The final has always been held at Lord's and there have been some majestic moments in the competition's 31 year history, something Saturday's teams Warwickshire and Essex will be keen to repeat.
Channel 4's very own Mark Nicholas and Dermot Reeve have both lifted the B&H Cup at Lord's Nicholas being the only county captain to do so twice and both will be reliving their memories and offering advice on Saturday.
Indeed, all former victorious captains will be on hand as B&H bring down the curtain on what is widely perceived as cricket's equivalent to the FA Cup final.
The Roadshow will also weigh up the merits of Saturday's two teams, speaking at length with Essex captain Ronnie Irani and Warwickshire bowler Neil Carter. Irani is currently enjoying the form of his life with bat and ball, earning himself a recall to England;s one-day side through sheer weight of performances.
Carter, still a relative unknown, was The Bears' hero in their nail-biting semi-final victory against Lancashire. Coming in at No 11 Carter promptly swept Glenn Chapple for a last ball boundary to seal the narrowest of wins.
Elsewhere on the programme Sybil Ruscoe talks to the world's most experienced Test umpire Steve Buknor, Adam Darke reviews England's thrilling 10-wicket win against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford and we welcome the Indian tourists ahead of the NatWest Series and four npower Tests.
