CRICKET ROADSHOWS
 |
Week 2 Preview - 19 May, Lord's
Miscreants, Stattos and Athers |
Players' on-field behaviour comes under the spotlight on Saturday as C4's Cricket Roadshow examines the pros and cons of the MCC's new Spirit of Cricket initiative, due to be launched in mid-July.
Is it time to lay down the law and start enforcing match bans or did the ICC get it right over the winter when they took the softly-softly approach against the cantankerous miscreants as the Sri Lanka-England series exploded into controversy?
Have standards slipped so much that cricket, the globally perceived "gentleman's game", has to re-write its constitution so players know where they stand?
Now's the chance to have your say as the Roadshow team prepares to tackle the issue head on at cricket's headquarters on Saturday.
Email the programme now, or on Saturday, with your views about what should be done, or tell us if you think it was more a case of media-hype rather than a serious breakdown of the game's very fabric.
Another topic which has been subject to extended recent debate is the formation of an official World Test Championship, with the 1st Test at Lord's being the inaugural match within a rolling annual fixture list encompassing all 10 Test-playing nations.
Do we really need to regulate the international calendar just to be able to proclaim one team as champions, and if so is the ICC's format the best way forward? And what's with our fascination for rankings and statistics? Tune in on Saturday to get the psychologist's perspective.
All this and much more will investigated during the hour-long programme, with presenters Mark Nicholas, Sybil Ruscoe and Adam Darke holding the show's reins.
Former England captain Michael Atherton gives an in-depth interview talking about his career, his future playing plans and what's on the agenda once he unbuckles his pads for the last time.
One of the game's greatest all-rounders, Imran Khan, will also be on board to give his thoughts on how the 1st Test is unfolding between England and Pakistan at Lord's, while fellow C4 commentators Richie Benaud and Michael Slater add the Australian perspective.
In addition there will be all the usual Roadshow features and competitions, including a question and answer section which allows the viewers to have their say. What better way to warm-up for the third day's play from Lord's at the start of England's busiest-ever summer of international cricket?
