CRICKET ROADSHOWS
 |
Week 15 Preview - 18 Aug, Headingley
The night Aussie cricket went to the dogs |
You won't get many people claiming Aussie cricket has gone to the dogs this summer but Saturday's Cricket Roadshow has incontrovertible evidence of the fact.
Unfortunately for England it's not the metaphorical doldrums that appear to have engulfed their own players, but rather an evening trip to Kinsley dog track as the tourists put their canine sense to the test.
Presenter Sybil Ruscoe caught up with Steve Waugh and his team as they relaxed trackside, speaking exclusively to the injured captain as he battles to regain fitness for 5th Test at The Oval, as well as sharing a chat with in-form leggie (is he ever out of form?) Shane Warne.
Having sent the Aussies to the dogs, we then call in the spin doctors as the perennial search for an English Warne continues.
Ian Salisbury and Chris Schofield have both been highly touted in recent years but neither has so far produced the goods, frustrating English supporters and selectors alike with an all-too-evident inability to reign in the 'four-balls'.
Who better, then, to address the continuing drought than Terry Jenner, the man Warne credits as the most influential on his majestic career?
We share trade secrets and tips with the master leg-spin coach and also give a nod to Graveney & Co by unveiling England's possible future a four-year-old leg-spin prodigy who undergoes the Simon Hughes analysis.
Middlesex coach John Emburey and Surrey star Saqlain Mushtaq also join in the debate about the dearth of quality domestic spinners, opining their own views about how to address the problem.
Of course no-one has the monopoly on cricketing viewpoints and the Roadshow would love to hear your thoughts on England's spin shortage. Did it all begin with the covering of wickets or has the proliferation of one-day cricket taken its toll? Perhaps you have a different theory, so why not email us with your thoughts.
Elsewhere on the show we investigate the strange case of the two-year debut as we unravel the mystery of Simon Katich and the Baggy Green Cap, take a sideways look at Damien Fleming in the ever-popular '60 Seconds with Slats', and check out Wicked Cricket a highly successful initiative by Birmingham Police to get kids off the streets.
In addition there'll be all the regular features, including a look back at the week's most significant county cricket and a review of the opening two days at Headingley.
