CRICKET ROADSHOWS
 |
Week 10 Preview - 14 Jul, Borrowash
Focus switches to club scene |
Channel 4's Cricket Roadshow diverts from the international stage this week no bad thing in light of England's pasting at Edgbaston and takes a closer look at the league and club scene throughout the country.
While one-day giants Gloucestershire and Surrey do battle at Lord's the roadshow heads for the Derbyshire countryside to sample life at Ockbrook and Borrowash CC.
We'll be taking a look at life in the amateur leagues, paying specific attention to the need for clubs to modernise in an increasingly profit-driven environment.
There will be tips on marketing, pitch maintenance and player development, and a look at how some clubs are having to stave off financial advances from greedy property developers.
Anyone that plays club cricket, no matter what standard, will be aware of the endless need for fundraising racing nights, club discos and barbecues can only go so far so the roadshow investigates what's the best way for uou to get your hands on some of the money currently slushing around the game.
Is amalgamation the way to go with clubs striving for an ever decreasing number of players?
Of course, no roadshow would be complete without a look back at the week's cricket so England supporters are advised to locate near a heft sofa so they jump behind it when the Edgbaston horror show gets replayed.
On a more cheerful note Marcus Trescothick, one of England's few successes and a possible future captain, gets the profile treatment fresh from his corruscatic hundred for Somerset in the Cheltenham and Gloucester Tropny.
The increasingly popular 60 seconds with Slats get another airing and there will be the usual regular features including the Q&A session, Jaffas & Jokers and the Masterclass.
As ever emails to the show are welcome, either before or during, with possible talking points this week including the England captaincy, Australia's continued domination and the astounding news that Gloucestershire have actually lost a one-day cup match, their first such defeat in three years.
Directions: Leave the M1 and come off at Junction 25 signed to Derby (A52). Continue until the Ockbrook exit and then turn left at the T junction. Follow this road until The Queen's Head pub, and turn immediately left - the gate to the cricket ground is on the left.
