CRICKET ROADSHOWS

Nasser Hussain

Week 1 Preview - 12 May, Canterbury

Hussain, Headley and Hawk-Eye

Batting tips from England captain Nasser Hussain, inside the Pakistan camp with Waqar and Wasim, and an exclusive peek at the new Hawk-Eye technology are just three of the star features as C4's Cricket Roadshow returns to our screens on May 12.

Hosted once more by Mark Nicholas and Sybil Ruscoe, the opening show of this summer's programmes will be transmitted live from Kent's St Lawrence Ground in Canterbury just five days before England take on Pakistan in the 1st Test at Lord's.

The opening match marks the beginning of England's busiest ever international summer and C4 viewers will get an unrivalled preview of how both teams are preparing for the Lord's clash and who the experts are tipping to succeed.

The challenge ahead is immense for Hussain and his players - there is also the little matter of a five-Test Ashes series beginning in June - and the Essex batsman speaks candidly to Nicholas about how he plans to build on England's winter of content.

Kent captain and PCA chairman Matthew Fleming will be on hand to offer local input at one of the country's most famous grounds, with newly retired Dean Headley also popping in to chat about life as an ex-international cricketer.

Michael Slater, another familiar face from last year's coverage, gives an insider's view of the Australian build up to the Ashes, while all those worried about the impact of global warming can tune in for John Kettley's summer overview of what the heavens have in store.

As if that wasn't enough Saturday's show also sees the television debut of Hawk-Eye, the new missile-tracking technology developed specifically to tackle cricket's oldest and most debated topic; the LBW law.

Hawk-Eye has been designed expressly to enhance C4's cricket coverage and combines footage from six digital cameras, complex mathematical formulae and cutting edge computer technology to provide viewers with an unrivalled insight into whether the ball would have hit the stumps or not.

Already it has sparked widespread debate concerning its potential use as an umpiring tool and, although the governing bodies are reserving judgement so far, Saturday's programme will give C4 viewers the opportunity to voice their own opinions via the popular email Feedback facility.

But debate doesn't have to be limited to Hawk-Eye and its ramifications. The Roadshow team, this week including commentary guru Richie Benaud and "jargon buster" Simon Hughes, is keen to discuss any cricket-related topic, whether it be the make-up of England's Test team, the infamous lime tree within the St Lawrence Ground, or the lack of local club facilities in your area.

Other features on Saturday's show include the regular coaching tips section Masterclass (with Hussain), a review of the season so far in Cricket Week and a comprehensive look ahead to C4's upcoming live coverage.
