Jon Lewis
Jon Lewis: Never knowingly underbowled
No squad changes

England's selectors have resisted any temptation to tinker with the squad which pulverised Bangladesh at Lord's, and have named an unchanged twelve for the 2nd Test at Durham, which starts on Friday.

Jon Lewis, who didn't play at Lord's, keeps his place, as does spinner Gareth Batty, who played but didn't bowl or bat in his first Test in this country.

Lewis has also broken into the England one-day squad for the first time, winning inclusion into a 14-strong party for the Twenty20 International against Australia on June 13, and the subsequent NatWest Series against Bangladesh and Australia.

Kevin Pietersen, whom some pundits had tipped for a first Test squad berth at Durham in place of Graham Thorpe, must wait until the one-day competition for his first England outing of the summer.

Chairman of selectors David Graveney commented: "With regard to the Test squad, we have retained the same XI who played at Lord's together with Jon Lewis, and Duncan Fletcher and Michael Vaughan will make a final decision on the starting line-up once they have assessed the pitch and the conditions at Durham.

"In choosing the one-day squad, we have decided to pick players for the Twenty20 International and NatWest Series only at this stage. We will review our options ahead of the NatWest Challenge and may make alterations if necessary.

"We have not included Ashley Giles in the Test squad for Durham but we are hopeful that he will recover from injury and be available for the NatWest Series. Alex Wharf was not considered for the one-day squad as he is recovering from a side strain and we hope that he will regain fitness in time to be considered for selection for the NatWest Challenge.

"Jon Lewis had an excellent 'A' tour, continues to perform consistently for Gloucestershire in both forms of the game and fully merits a place in both Test and one-day squads. He is keen to represent his country and I am sure that he will be ready to take full advantage of any opportunities that come his way.

"Simon Jones bowled impressively during the 1st Test and he has also put in some impressive performances for Glamorgan in one-day cricket this season. This is a good chance for him to show he can hold down a place in both international squads."

Squad for 2nd Test:

Michael Vaughan (capt), Gareth Batty, Ian Bell, Andrew Flintoff, Stephen Harmison, Matthew Hoggard, Geraint Jones, Simon Jones, Jon Lewis, Andrew Strauss, Graham Thorpe, Marcus Trescothick.

Squad for Twenty20 International NatWest Series:
