Q: Is it out if the ball hits the wickets but doesn't dislodge the bails?

A: No. The bails must be dislodged for a batsman to be bowled out, stumped or run out. There have been a number of occasions when the ball has just flicked one of the stumps, or just rolled back and not dislodged the bails. It is a highly unusual occurence and generally leads to the bowler bemoaning his luck and making some caustic remark about the bails being glued on with chewing gum or some such substance.
