T Third man - Twelfth man

Simon Hughes

Third man – a fielder on the boundary behind the slips. Originally it was closer to the bat to augment the regular positions of slip and point so was called 'third man up'.

Ton – a century (100 runs by a single batsman on one innings).

Track – common vernacular for the pitch.

Turning wicket – a pitch receptive to spin, which is usually very dry and cracked.

Twelfth man – the player who wasn't selected in the final eleven but who can act as substitute fielder if another is incapacitated. Often the official 12th man is allowed home (or to play for his county) and a spritely youngster is brought in to run errands and do the substitute fielding. He is not allowed to bat or bowl.
