M Maiden - Michelle

Simon Hughes

Maiden – an over in which no runs were scored. Derives from the idea of unproductivity. If there are byes in an over, but no runs scored off the bat, it still counts as a maiden.

Maker's name – a straight shot played with the manufacturer's logo (on the face of the bat) visible throughout.

Manhattan – a bar graph relaying runs scored per over. A period of heavy scoring will resemble the New York skyline.

Michelle - short for the actress Michelle Pfeiffer and used as a bastardised form of rhyming slang for "five-for", meaning to take five wickets in an innings. Hence the phrase "Warney got a Michelle in the first innings at Edgbaston".
