Tawny owl hoot

How Jem holds his hands to hoot

Would you like to get a glimpse of a tawny owl? If you can learn to do a good owl hoot, then you stand a chance of seeing one. They are the only owl that can make a living in our city parks, so don't be put off if you are a city dweller.

The Barn Owl Trust have given us a recording of a tawny owl. Have a listen and see if you can copy it.

Once you think you sound like the recording, try it at dusk in a fairly open area which has some trees. Can you get an owl to answer you? If you get really good at it, then you might even get an inquisitive owl dropping by to see who's new in the area.
