Sue is the first woman to walk to the Magnetic North Pole.
Sue is a unique mixture of motivational speaker, successful business
woman and record-breaking explorer. In 1996, she saw an advertisement
for a polar expedition, which read "Are You Man Enough?".
She was so determined to prove that a woman was just as capable
of being an explorer as a man that she sailed through the gruelling
rounds of tests, designed to narrow the field of applicants down.
This involved psychological tests, army assault courses and a 28
mile march before winning her place in the team and raising the
£15,000 expedition costs. During the 30 day journey Sue survived
temperatures of -40C and pulled 60lbs of equipment for twelve hours
a day to reach the North Pole.
On her return Sue started up a business combining her corporate
training knowledge and expedition experience to motivate individuals
and teams using the same principles that had led to her success.
Prior to 1996, Sue had spent three months in Kenya with Raleigh
International and a year in the former Yugoslavia with the United
Nations.
Since 1996, she has been part of many expeditions including a 350-mile
trek across the Greenland Icecap. Sue's talent at pulling together
teams was really put to the test as the four team members, all from
different countries, had never met before the actual expedition.
As an athlete Sue has represented Scotland in the 3000 metres and
cross-country and more recently has run for Oxfordshire. She has
a Masters Degree in Quality Management and Improvement, an MBA in
Entrepreneurship and Business Venturing and has recently started
up another business along with a London based Executive Search firm.
She has written a book, Kickstart Your Motivation and is currently
writing another one profiling successful UK female entrepreneurs.
