Monty is an ex-Marine Officer who describes himself as a diving
explorer and adventure journalist. He trained with the Royal Marines
after a short stint in the Navy, where he even spent time training
the guerrilla army in South Africa after Nelson Mandela was released.
At 29, Monty decided to do a Marine Biology Degree and got involved
with fascinating projects including the underwater filming of a
rare species of crocodile in Belize in partnership with the Natural
History Museum, which had never been filmed before.
At the beginning of 2002 Monty led a group of adventurers and scientists
to the sunken city of Tamil Nadu off the coast of India, researched
by Graham Hancock, and discovered 6 temples (still being explored).
Also in 2002 he led a group of divers to the 10 greatest ocean destinations
on earth, encountering great white sharks, whales, dolphins, caves,
and manta rays among other creatures. He wrote articles for Divers
Magazine and did a shark survey en route.
Monty keeps the money coming in by giving conference talks on the
Marines and his expeditions. He also runs a 'Commando Challenge'
course. This involves putting groups of random people through Marine
training/assault courses for three days after a three month period
of training sessions. He is also a media advisor to the Marines
so he is still partly involved with them.
As well as organising his next couple of expeditions - the top
10 Shipwrecks in the world at the end 2003 and the top 10 Wildlife
Encounters in 2004 - Monty is also writing a book called 'Dive'-
the Rough Guide of diving sites.
