Why should you win
Superhuman? |
I have never professed to be Superhuman, although
I will let others and history evaluate my legacy and contribution. |
| What makes someone
Superhuman? |
Humanity, humility, resilience and determination. Courage
in the face of adversity. Understanding and eternal optimism (humour)
- all of which applied to my late grandmother Roslyn Dodd. |
What was being on
Superhuman like? |
First of all it was an honour to be chosen to take
part. I hope I was an interesting contestant, because, for me, it
was very good exercise, and I experienced a lot of things I would
never have done normally. In general I don't like surprises as I like
to plan what I am going to do. However, I did learn a lot more about
myself, and met some very interesting people. In hindsight, I know
I could have applied myself a lot better for some of the tests, but,
perhaps everyone could say the same. I think the whole experience
can only benefit me and will be included in my memoirs. It should
also make interesting listening for my grandchildren. |
| Favourite Test |
I'm not sure favourite is the word, but the test I
was least looking forward to is the one that probably gave me the
most satisfaction - the Fearlessness test. The reason is I have an
acute fear of heights and still do. We were sent to an old disused
mine in Sheffield to do a bungee jump. Because everything was inside
it served to heighten the height of the drop which was considerable.
Most of my super-colleagues (including myself) and the crew, thought
that I would have opted out of the test. But some reason I was able
to tap into a part of me that overcame that fear, however brief, and
the transition was captured on film. |
| Worst Test |
I must say without wanting to elaborate there were
several tests that I didn't like. The reasons being, it was not so
much the tests but some of the things that accompanied them that I
found quite unpleasant. But that does not mean I did not enjoy the
experience. |
| Superhuman Lessons |
The Superhuman experience has both confirmed to me
what I already know inside about my potential. It also enlightened
me to the fact that, regardless of achievement, sometimes people may
not see you the way you perceive yourself. |
How to become
Superhuman |
Enjoy it. Life
is too short. You have an opportunity to do things that the
average person will not experience. |
And Who's your ultimate
Superhuman? |
Apart form my grandmother, I would love to nominate
the African American scientist George Washington Carver who single-handedly
helped to revitalise the American agricultural economy after the cotton
crop was destroyed by the boll weevil beetle on 1915. Dr Carver had
already been examining an odd little vine that produced a peanut.
From this crop he would eventually produce over 300 industrial products
from the peanut including, shoe polish, dyes, ink, shaving cream,
milk and butter (peanut butter). From its shell he produced soil conditioner,
and insulating board among other products. And he never chose to patent
any of these products saying they all belonged to 'the garden of God.'
Now he is what I call a Superhuman. |
