Robert Llewellyn

Robert was born when the Suez Canal crisis hit the headlines – one hell of a long time ago! His interest in engines and machinery started at an early age, when he and his elder brother adapted a small go-cart using their father's 3 horsepower Briggs Stratton four-stroke mower engine as a power pack.

The only error in the planning was not informing their father beforehand, which resulted in him entering a raging fury when the time came to cut the lawn.

In his later teens he worked on developing environmentally sensitive, four-wheel, two-seater cycle-cars. He would also become a shoemaker using recycled car tyres and old school satchels, before eventually stumbling onto a stage and making some people laugh.

After 10 years appearing in Red Dwarf on the BBC, Robert found his natural home – standing in piles of discarded machinery for Channel 4's Scrapheap Challenge. During this time, his skills at building things have steadily diminished, whilst he has honed his ability to watch other people do it.
