Powerboats
This week's teams compete to build wave-pounding powerboats capable of skimming across the Scrapheap lake. And it's not as easy as it sounds. Scrapheap Challenge has had a variable record with water-borne races. Last time, the fastest boat was blown across the line by a gust of wind, having been overtaken by a duck.
This time the teams – the Somerset Scramblers, a trio of motocross-mad farm boys and Berkshire-based military vehicle enthusiasts the Rusty Regiment – are asked to rewrite the Scrapheap record book by building powerboats that can actually go fast and stay afloat at the same time. The race is judged by Gina Campbell, daughter of the legendary Donald Campbell. But Gina's not been chosen for her name alone; she has powerboating skills of her own and has held the women's water speed record.
