The Test
Eliminator Round
First up for the public teams was the eliminator round, which would see the 16 teams whittled down to just eight quarter finalists.
The teams had to give it their all to keep their dreams alive and a packed crowd were wowed by a mind-boggling array of catapults, trebuchets, crossbows and kickers. It was just a shame that half of the teams had to be given the boot.
Quarter Finals
With the eight teams decided it was time for the quarter finals. Over the four heats it would be the two teams with the highest scores who would progress to the final and a chance to face the All Stars.
The teams would score points by landing as many wellies as possible between lines drawn at 25 and 30 metres.
The early pace was set by reigning roadshow champions the King Sized Coopers. That was until Welly Be Gone's motorbike-driven trebuchet and the Nuzzling Badger's giant hydraulic crossbow took to the firing range.
Their scores of 24 and 26 respectively meant that they would compete in the all-comers final; the winner of which would meet the All Stars in the final showdown!
All-Comers Final
To score points, the two teams would need to fire wellies at giant inflatable effigies of the All Stars.
It was the Nuzzling Badgers' crossbow that proved to be up to the job, displaying an unerring accuracy and terrifying power that gave the All Stars food for thought.
Grand Final
So it was to the day's big finale. The Nuzzling Badgers would face the mighty Scrapheap All Stars for the Golden Welly Trophy. Once again the All Star effigies would be the targets.
Despite some close calls, the All Stars failed to hit a single target while their opponents managed two scoring shots.
Victory to the Nuzzling Badgers. The reputation of the 'heap lay once again in the gutter.
