The Test

The Beach Bums make an elegant start

Both teams baulked when they saw the depth of mud and water they were to traverse. Woof justice looked especially worried as they realised their engine would be almost totally submerged!

Tinker time was a hive of activity as the Beach Bums attempted to connect their last prop shaft to achieve 4x4 and finish off the remaining parts of their build. Woof Justice focused their attentions on waterproofing their complex V12 engine.

The course was one of utter simplicity – one run, down the bank, through the swamp and out the other side. Fastest time wins.

Swamp thing I think I love you
The tension was palpable as Woof Justice took to the start line. Their V12 roared off the line and they raced to the waters edge. They entered with a great splash and the worrying sound of their mighty engine bogging down. With their engine now fully submerged it looked unlikely to make the course but the scrap gods were smiling on the coppers. Their engine caught and they began to churn their way across the lake. Their tall skinny tyres had traction at the muddy bottom of the lake and after a mere 54 seconds they emerged from the bog and stormed across the finish line.

The swamp is a little deeper than Woof Justice expected
The Beach Bums had it all to do. They roared off the start line and entered the lake with a huge splash. Their massive tyres scrabbled for traction on the lakebed, with all four wheels churning up the murky swamp. They stormed across the lake and ran straight over one of the finishing barrels in their race to cross the line.

Scrapheap Challenge champions

In the end there was a mere four seconds between the teams and it looks like the Bums' choice of wide tyres was their downfall as they recorded the slower time. And so it's the erstwhile dog handlers from Newcastle who were crowned champions and given the chance to face the mighty Powerlifters in next week's Grand Final.

Congratulations 2007 Scrapheap champs – Woof Justice.
