Seventy in that?

The Beach Bums

The Bums settled on an outrageously ambitious surface skimming pond rocket. Their expert Michael convinced them that if they achieved sufficient velocity with the correct tyres, they would skim across the top of the water in super-fast time. The magic number for this feat is 70mph. The keen scavengers quickly sourced a brutish V8 from a thrashed Chevy Camaro. They also nabbed some giant quarry truck wheels, which proved to be their undoing as they weighed in at a ghastly 500kg each!

The Beach Bums are ready to go

Their plans of surface skimming were further scuppered when they decided on a huge army truck as the base for their vehicle. This super heavyweight approach meant that a last minute design change was necessary and the team fitted a boat hull to the front of their machine in an attempt to displace water around their huge tyres. The scale of the build nearly defeated the Bums and they finished the build with a long to-do list for tinker time.

Woof Justice opt for a bijou power unit

Woof Justice

The coppers and expert Richard went for a more sensible approach from the off - big power, rear-wheel-drive and tall, skinny tyres to lessen resistance. Their scavenge started well with early finds of a V12 Jaguar engine and a set of Ro-crop skinny tyres. They cunningly put the large wheels at the front and the small at the rear to minimise the gearing issue of using large diameter wheels on the drive axle.

Their decision to custom-build a chassis was questioned as they struggled to get all their parts together, but by the time the gong went at the end of the 10 hours Woof justice were sitting pretty with their behemoth almost ready for action.
