The Test

Preparing the course
Targets were set at 15, 20 and 30 metres. The teams were limited on time and ammo. One ball in the pool target equalled one point, with a penalty of three points for a breakdown. Whoever crossed the finish line first would gain three points, so manoverabilty was very important.

The Bus Boys take aim

Woof Justice had just cleared a flooded motor and were confident their machine would be accurate. Facing them, the Bus Boys were discovering just how much physical effort it took to cock their mortar. The tension was palatable. Lisa sounded the horn, both teams raced into position and the basketballs began to fly.

On the first range, the Bus Boys' machine looked unstoppable, getting five points while Woof Justice manage to pepper the area with ammo but failed to get much accuracy.

Woof Justice get some height

Woof Justice had much more luck on the second range and when the Bus Boys' mortar broke they took the lead by two points. Could the Bus Boys take the third range and with it victory?

It was like Pawel was willing the balls into the target. Every Bus Boys' shot seemed to be hitting home, but Woof Justice were also scoring well. With time up Woof Justice were still ahead but the Bus Boys could still win if they crossed the finish line first and took the three bonus points.

The Bus Boys in action

But lady luck wasn't on their side – as they ran their mortar caught on the ground and the team tumbled over, allowing Woof Justice to cross the line first.

A disaster for the lads from Colchester. The Newcastle coppers would be going into the next round.
