The Test

Hello Lisa - got a new motor?

Our two teams lined up in the blazing sunshine. After a brief tinker, they were ready to take their run at the grass drag strip. They would each race three times against the clock and the team with the lowest cumulative time would be through to this year's final.

First up was Woof Justice Captain Simon in their front-wheel-drive, 2-litre power sled. Their manual gearbox made for a quick start but Simon had difficulty controlling it. Despite spending most of his time going sideways, he crossed the line in a rapid 10.42 seconds.

Next to run was expert Graham for the Turbo Taxis in their V8 monster. Their auto box provided a very slow start and poor acceleration. All the weight over the skids also made steering nigh on impossible. An improved performance in the last 50 metres meant that Graham recorded a respectable time of 18.59 seconds.

Woof Justice then entrusted their intimidating machine to expert Les who gave a master class in drag sled driving. A scorching run racked up 9.42 seconds for the Geordies.

The Turbo Taxis' drag sled proves hard to handle

Turbo Taxis Captain Herman took the reins of their beastly drag sled next as he attempted to control its nigh-on 200 horsepower. Another slow start spoilt the Taxis’ plans and a run of over 17 seconds gave them a cumulative time so far of 35.12 seconds after two races, against a time of 20.24 for the Geordies.

The Geordies are in the final!

In the third run, Woof Justice’s Neil proved to be a reliable driver, making it almost impossible for the Turbo Taxis to win. The diminutive Taxis driver Dink recorded the fastest time of the day, but it simply wasn’t enough.

Woof Justice stormed into the final.
