The Test

Woof Justice and the stubborn pivot

Given the late-night dilemmas of the Geordies, our judge had changed his mind and his money was now firmly on the forklift fanatics from Essex.

His choice was reinforced by Woof Justice during tinker time with their decision to reinstate the wheels on the front tractor. This radical redesign stemmed from a lack of faith in their homemade connection that had to be relied upon to take the weight of the two tractors. It also meant they were reverting to standard steering rather than the planned hydraulic pivot – a dangerous plan so close to the test.

First for Woof Justice is the shed

First up Woof Justice

Woof Justice had the first attempt at the course and their machine was surprisingly nimble. They stormed through the garden shed, bits of which stuck to the front of their machine, obscuring their line of sight. As a result they had great difficulty parking their skip in the correct place. They incurred a 2-minute penalty for their lack of precision.

Something tells me Woof Justice don't like caravans

The shed luckily dislodged by the time they came to tackle the mound of earth, but a new problem emerged – coordination. With two full sets of controls, both drivers had to be fully aware of what each other was doing at all times. In the heat of the moment Woof justice were left with the rather hilarious situation where one tractor was trying to drive forward and the other was driving backwards!

After realising their mistake, the team gave up on the mountain of earth and accepted a further 3-minute time penalty. They charged at full speed into and through the caravan, decimating it in seconds, and stormed across the line for a total time of 9 minutes 52 seconds.

Neat parking from the Powerlifters

Step up The Powerlifters

Next up were the hotly tipped Powerlifters with their half track truck. They made a slow but steady start and flattened the garden shed with ease.

Their next task was the skip which they steadily pushed towards the allotted area. But as they finally placed their skip they found themselves unable to reverse as one of their tracks struggled for traction. The team had to dismount and free the vehicle with steel poles. No time penalty was incurred but a lot of time was lost.

The Powerlifters 're-arrange' the caravan
They approached the earth with trepidation, fearing further loss of traction and after a few feeble attempts they took their penalty and rushed to the caravan. Poor driving left the caravan bruised but still alive and the Powerlifters had to reverse and take another go to satisfy the judge.

Woof Justice with expert Richard Little and the Rings of Steel trophy
At the champagne moment, Rob and Lisa announced Woof Justice as this year's Champions of Champions and awarded them the Rings of Steel trophy. Their time was a full 2 minutes faster than the Powerlifters.
