Scrapheap Robert Lisa FAQs Club Scrapheap
Lisa Promising career leads to scrapheap

Lisa Rogers made quite an impact when she joined the Scrapheap team in 2002. Bizarrely, she came back for more this year – is she as mad as Robert?

Before Scrapheap, Lisa was already a familiar face on British television. She's had a long association with Channel 4's Big Breakfast, has been presenting the weekly football show Match Day on the ITV Sport Channel and also regularly reports for ITV1's On the Ball. She's presented Carlton TV's motoring series Pulling Power, BBC1's Football Fever and BBC Choice's 45 Minutes of Football. She has also been a regular presenter on BBC Play UK's Top of the Pops at Play and BBC2's Top of the Pops Plus. And she starred in the TV drama series Lock, Stock – her acting debut.

Lisa began her television career working as a researcher. She has a degree in drama.

So, on the surface at least, Lisa does not seem particularly stupid or self-destructive. So why is she still here? We wanted to get some idea of why this talented and personable person is still risking life, limb and reputation in the fiery crucible that is Scrapheap Challenge.

The big questions

How are you?

Very well, apart from having a dicky tummy. I think it was something I ate on our Scrapheap pick up day (either that or I made myself sick driving too fast).

How's your car running?

Good, until yesterday when some unrecognisable dashboard light started flashing. Not sure what it means until I look it up but at a guess it's 'your car's knackered and it's going to cost you half your year's salary to fix it'.

What's your favourite CD?

Stevie Wonder – Inner Visions

What's your favourite food?

Egg and chips

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Listening to Stevie Wonder, while eating egg and chips before drinking vodka with my best friends and a dog on a hot tropical island. Then riding a very fast bike through beautiful countryside (obviously after I've sobered up from the vodka).

What is your idea of perfect Scrappiness?

Good weather (it's miserable when it rains), happy teams that don't resent Robert and mw too much for interrupting their build to talk to them and machines that just make me go 'how did they do that in 10 hours? Brilliant!' And of course a good dose of Scrapheap insanity thrown in.

About Scrapheap Challenge

What's the gossip about Scrapheap 2003?

Exploding bombs, exploding machines and exploding contestants. Oh, and Robert has a sex change … only kidding.

What was your favourite challenge this year?

Can't give details but it involves jet engines. Just the most astounding bit of engineering I've ever seen on the 'heap.

What are the common mistakes that teams make when they are competing in Scrapheap Challenge?

Either talking/arguing too much and not getting on with it or rushing headlong into it without all agreeing on a plan of attack. So, basically failing to work as a team. Also, being overambitious, then running out of time. Or being too laid back and spending all their time drinking tea.

What is the most important attribute that teams need to succeed in Scrapheap Challenge?

The ability to work well together as a team. Simple. (And if you've got some skilled engineering brains in there, too, it helps!)

How do you relax on the 'heap?

Eating, eating, eating and telling jokes that are far too rude to go out on the show. The first three I'm good at, the last one Robert's good at. He's a very funny man.

Is it true that you have started wearing your Scrapheap outfit when you go down the shops?

The scrapheap outfits really get put through the mill during the filming of a series. If I went down the shops in mine now, I'd clear the shop, 'cos I'd smell so bad. Then I'd be arrested for vagrancy. So no, definitely not.

Do you think they should have looked for Weapons of Mass Destruction on the Scrapheap?

Have you seen some of the team members? They are walking, talking, breathing weapons of mass destruction and not very hard to spot.
